Off to Skin School! – Dermalogica Kick-Off course
The process of cleaning, toning, moisturizing, and treating my skin may seem like a lot of work to other people, but I really look forward to it every day. A proper skincare routine can completely change the appearance of your skin, and it is very necessary if you want your makeup to look its absolute best.
I’ve always had a strong interest in skincare, so it was with a lot of anticipation that I said farewell to sunny home and made my way to the Dermalogica headquarters in Leatherhead.
To begin, can we all just take a moment to appreciate how stunning this location is? The day was bright and pleasant, and the first things I saw were horses and blossoms. It was a beautiful scene. The inside is laid up in such a way that it’s almost like a toy store for skincare items; there are so many exquisite things, all of which are exhibited elegantly.
The purpose of the “Kick Off” course is to teach you all there is to know about the great Dermalogica products, as well as the many skin types and problems, and individualized skincare regimens. Additionally, instruction in face mapping and skin analysis is included in the course.
The client’s primary skin issues are determined and a personalized product regimen is prescribed as part of the Face Mapping process. It was very interesting to learn about the different facial zones and how they relate to and are affected by other parts of the body. For example, zones 5 and 9 are your cheeks, and they often give an accurate glimpse into any respiratory distress. This was something that I found to be very interesting to learn about. People who smoke or who suffer from allergies often encounter fine capillaries that have ruptured or congestion in this region.
It was also incredibly fantastic to see so many of the products in person; up until that point, the only things I’d tested were Daily Microfoliant and Multi-Active Toner. In order for us to get a feel for the various textures, we were instructed to try them out not just on ourselves but also on one another. I was especially curious about the benefits of double cleansing, which entails using Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse to dissolve away makeup, dirt, and excess oil, and then following it up with a cleanser that is suited to your skin type to provide a really deep and effective clean. I was able to find out about these benefits by reading some articles online.
It’s a terrific first step into Dermalogica training, and if you’re also a real beauty geek, you’ll enjoy knowing all the information on your favorite products (like how Pre-Cleanse includes nuts; who knew?!). I would certainly suggest this course. Not only were the instructors kind and welcoming, but they were also very knowledgeable about the company, its products, and skin in general. I will most certainly be returning for more of this!
